While the main focus in Chicago on Thursday was the very first media appearance of forward Patrick Kane, the Blackhawks took care of some very important business away from the cameras.
First the Blackhawks named Brent Seabrook their new alternate captain after the departure of forward Patrick Sharp who previously held the role. Now we are also hearing rumors that general manager Stan Bowman and Seabrook's camp are close to a long term deal that would keep the talented blue liner with the Blackhawks for the foreseeable future.
According to reporters Seabrook has confirmed he has had discussions with Bowman about a possible new deal.
There is no way to view the signing of a player like Seabrook as a major win for the organization.
