Red Wings “firmly in the mix” to acquire a highly offensive player!

Craig Custance from The Athletic dropped an interesting info on Tuesday morning.

Edmonton-born NCAA free agent RW/C Spencer Foo is expected to make his decision later in June. Edmonton would be in the mix as well as Detroit, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.

An NHL source confirmed with The Athletic that top college free agent forward Spencer Foo has narrowed down his list and the Detroit Red Wings are part of a ‘small handful’ of teams still in the running.

In an NHL.com article on this year’s top college free agents, Dave Starman, a college hockey analyst for CBS Sports Network and ESPN, gives the following scouting report on Foo:

He’s greasy. He just does a lot of little things that are fun to watch. He’s got electric speed, hands, guts. He’s not afraid to try something difficult. He’s been good. He’s just fun to watch and he plays with an edge.

Source confirmed to Craig Custance that “the Red Wings made an impressive pitch described as ‘first-class’ that put them in the mix to land the free agent, a pitch combined with multiple meetings and conversations with Jiri Fischer, the Red Wings director of player evaluation, that has kept Detroit in the conversation.

Foo played 38 games this season with Union College. He scored 26 goals and registered 36 assists for a total of 62 points.
