It is no secret that the Boston Bruins lost an important piece of their blueline when they traded Johnny Boychuck to the New York Islanders. Although this may have left the Bruins a little short staffed, this trade may pay off sooner rather than later. The Bruins are interested in Buffalo Sabres rugged power forward Chris Stewart. Stewart would make a great addition to the Bruins squad, and the Boychuck trade may have put them in a position as front runner for his services. Sabres GM Tim Murray is looking for more draft picks, and may be looking at the Flyers 2nd round pick the Bruins received in the Johnny Boychuk trade. The Bruins may want the Sabres to retain some of Stewart’s contract, which would cost them more in assets. The Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets are also interested in Stewart. But thanks to the two second round picks the Sabres are looking at, it puts the Bruins in an incredibly advantageous position to add a forward in the future. Sometimes you have to get a little bit worse, in order to get a little better.
