Rumor roundup: Duchene, Galchenyuk, Kreider, Turris, McDonagh, and much more
KeyStone Press

This week has been full of rampant trade speculations surrounding several star players.

There are names we've been hearing for ages, and some new and unexpected ones as well.

Ryan McDonagh's name has come up in speculation recently from the likes of Larry Brooks of the New York Post and Matt Larkin of the Hockey News. The New York Rangers captain has been a mainstay on the team's blueline and it would seem unlikely that he'd go anywhere, but with the Rangers in a bit of a retool mode, anything can happen. Teams would be lining up with very tempting offers.

Some other names coming out of New York include Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello, and J.T. Miller. Kreider and 'Zucc' have been the subject of trade talk quite a bit as of late, primarily linked with the Montreal Canadiens.

Speaking of the Habs, the names often coming up there are Alex Galchenyuk and Andrew Shaw. Fortunately for Marc Bergevin, both of those players have stepped up their games this week and have provided several goals to the team. They've been heavily linked with the Rangers.

Carey Price was also a name that was floated Saturday night, but with his hefty contract extension kicking in next season, it seems impossible for a trade to be swung there. But again, never say never.

There's also the big 3-way deal that never happened between the Colorado AvalancheNashville Predators, and Ottawa Senators. The deal was centered around Matt Duchene and Kyle Turris, with several picks and prospects moving around as well. Ultimately the trade was aborted, but those two centermen are bound to be traded this season, as per many insiders. That being said, Duchene has been on the market for over a year and hasn't gone anywhere... so who knows.

There was also talk of Joe Sakic going after Matthias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators. The top 4 defensemen would be a huge addition to any club, and it was suggested that the Toronto Maple Leafs take a crack at acquiring him, although the price would be quite high.

Young Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett's name has also been out there, with him being unable to put up any points right now. The former 4th overall pick from 2014 still has a lot to offer and could find a new home soon if the Flames lose patience with him.

Tomas Tartar and Gustav Nyquist have also been mentioned as potential players in a deal coming out of Detroit. The Red Wings may opt to only keep one of them long term, and there will definitely be suitors for either of them.

That's it for now, folks. As December and the holiday trade freeze approach, there will be more and more substantiated trade talks occurring across the NHL, as that's around the time when teams have a decent idea if they are buyers or sellers.
