Team shopping one defenseman but rivals calling about another.

The Tampa Bay Lightning appear to be looking to make a trade, but the question seems to be will they get the trade they want, or the one opposing teams are asking from.

According to a report from Lightning insider Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times, the Lightning are currently shopping a young 26-year-old defenseman who has a very team-friendly deal.

From Smith:

There have been rumblings that Andrej Sustr might be getting shopped, the veteran right-handed shot also on a one-year deal, but his worth $1.95 million.

While the Lightning are trying to trade Sustr, it sounds like rival teams have been calling about another one of their defense, former first round pick Slater Koekkoek.

From Smith:

Teams likely have called about Koekkoek, betting that a change of scenery could do wonders for the 10th overall pick. Yzerman has traded three of his seven first-round draft picks.

Koekkoek is the more valuable prospect despite the fact that he has not lived up to the hype as a top 10 pick in the draft. It seems obvious the Lightning believe he still has more upside, and opposing teams must believe the same if they are calling. However he has just 43 games of National Hockey League experience and has just two goals and 5 assists over that stretch.

Sustr on the other hand was an undrafted pick up for the Lightning years ago, and after bouncing between the NHL and American Hockey League early on he has found a stable slot in the Lightning roster. He has 275 games of NHL experience and 8 goals and 48 assists for a total of 56 points over that stretch.

Sounds like one way or another we will have something coming from the Lightning.
