The Philadelphia Flyers haven’t gotten off to the start that they wanted so far this season, going 8-7-2 for just 18 points in their first 17 games. Many analysts predicted a return to the playoffs for the Flyers, but if they keep on their current trajectory, they’ll have a tough time even competing for a wildcard spot.

Maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise then that the team has found itself in the middle of trade rumors. Injuries to rookie Nolan Patrick and defenseman Andrew MacDonald have exposed the team’s depth as of late and goaltenders Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth have not been as stellar as the team’s management had hoped. Could GM Ron Hextall make a deal to shore up his team’s depth?

According to NHL.com’s Adam Kimelman, the press box was packed for the Flyers’ recent game against the Minnesota Wild

Interesting. No names floating around right now… but we suspect that those teams might be scouting someone specific on the Flyers. Maybe someone who has been mentioned in trade discussions with Hextall? Rookie defensemen Travis Sanheim and Sam Morin have generated a ton of interest on the trade market, so it’s possible that the Carolina Hurricanes, Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals wanted to get a closer look at the two puck moving defenders in person.

Until more news breaks though, we’re only left to speculate. Stay tuned, Flyers fans.
