A huge news update was released Friday night that detailed a botched three-way deal between the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators.
The centerpieces of the deal involved Matt Duchene (obviously) and Kyle Turris.
It's long been public knowledge that Joe Sakic is seeking a high end young left defenseman in a deal, so it's unclear who exactly would have went Colorado's way in the deal, but it appears that Ottawa would've received Duchene, and Nashville, Turris.
Turris is on the last year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. General manager Pierre Dorion has been in contract negotiations with the team's number one center and while they've seemingly agreed on the money, they cannot come to an understanding on term. Turris wants a max deal at 8 years and Dorion does not want to bite.
The fact that he was nearly traded within the last 24 hours speaks volumes about the team's plans for Turris. Especially now that it is public knowledge, we may very well have ourselves a new Matt Duchene scenario on our hands.
Turris is currently carrying a cap hit of $3.5 million and has a healthy 8 points to his name in 10 games this season.
If there's still a possibility of swapping Turris out for Duchene, would you do it?
