Rumor: Two goaltenders rumored as possible solution for Pittsburgh Penguins.

There is a big undercurrent of speculation in the National Hockey League around the Pittsburgh Penguins as it pertains to that team potentially acquiring a new goaltender.

The Penguins lost two-time Stanley Cup Champion Matt Murray to injury this week and given that the team listed him as "week-to-week" it appears he will be out for a considerable length of time.

"They were already looking at the backup goalie market because they didn't really like the fact that Tristan Jarry wasn't playing when Matt Murray was healthy," said TSN insider Pierre LeBrun. "Now I think they will go out and get some backup insurance."

Even more interesting from LeBrun was the fact that he provided two names he believes could be on the list of potential candidates for such a deal form the Penguins. NHL veteran Eddie Lack of the Calgary Flames, who has not played very well so far this season, was one of those names and the other was former Ottawa Senators backup Andrew Hammond, who despite being traded to the Avalanche this season remains with the American Hockey League Senators.

Hammomd would likely be the much more attractive option given his strong performance at the AHL level this season.

It's unclear what the Penguins would be willing to give up in such a deal, but any attempt to connect this trade rumor to the one surrounding Penguins defenseman Ian Cole would be foolish. Cole carries a much bigger price tag than either of these goalies would fulfill.
