Rumor: Two Red Wings likely to be on the trading block.

The Detroit Red Wings are not only very tight against the National Hockey League salary cap, they are also facing the reality that there team as currently constructed has struggled to achieve the results they have become accustomed to.

This has led many to speculate that we may be headed for some major changes in the Red Wings organization, both in terms of player personnel and the front office, and now two names are front and center on the trading block.

In a recent radio interview Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was asked which player he feels is the most likely to be traded this season, and there was little hesitation in his reponse.

“Mike Green,” said Friedman as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. “Mike Green is in the last year of his contract. I mean, if he has any kind of year, people will go after him big. That’s going to be a player that they can look at and they can say, ‘Alright.’ “

He wasn't the only name on the list for Friedman however, he believes another younger member of the Red Wings may also be on the trading block.

“I’ll tell you this: I wonder about a guy like Riley Sheahan, if he gets dealt,” continued Friedman. “There are a lot of people who really think that last year it was not that guy, that there’s a lot more there. I think even the Red Wings felt there was a lot more there."

There have been big rumors suggesting general manager Ken Holland will need to pull off a trade if he wants room to sign restricted free agent Andreas Athanasiou, and one has to wonder if one of these two get moved sooner rather than later.
