Anaheim Ducks forward has never been known as a dirty player, but his first serious offense may lead to a massive suspension.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting that he has heard the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will be viewing this as a category 2 offense, something that would carry a 10 game suspension.

For those who miss what transpired during Tuesday night's game between the Ducks and the Minnesota Wild, Vermette delivered a slash to an NHL official, striking him in the back of the leg. While initially it wasn't clear what had transpired, with players and coaches on both sides looking confused, the officials immediately ejected Vermette and the instant replay provided the damning evidence.
