Rumor: Veteran defenseman hoping for a return to Edmonton.
Keystone Press.

It sounds like if the Oilers are looking for some veteran depth on the blue line they have at least one option available to them.

According to a report from Oilers insider Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, defenseman Eric Gryba is holding out hope that he can earn himself a tryout with the organization, Matheson even hinted at the possibility that Edmonton may be the only place he would be willing take a tryout.

It's interesting that he has gone unsigned consider the Oilers have needed help on the blue line. Gryba appeared in 53 games for Edmonton last season, and while he was criticized at times during that stretch, he finished with an even plus minus rating on the season despite only contributing six points, indicating that he was at the very least of filling in on a bottom pairing.

It's unclear as of right now how likely a tryout will be, there was no further indication from Matheson on the willingness of Edmonton to extend such an offer.
