Everyone remembers where they were when star defenseman P.K. Subban was traded by the Montreal Canadiens to the Nashville Predators in return for Shea Weber. Habs GM Marc Bergevin certainly does, seeing that it has been the hallmark of his tenure in Montreal.

But what if Bergevin was to do it again. That's what Travis Yost of TSN wonders with the Canadiens' ongoing struggles and potential desire to rebuild the franchise.

Weber remains a highly valued defender across the entire NHL and could interest several rival clubs on the market. However, you have to keep in mind his lengthy poisonous contract, seeing that Weber is already 32 years old and somewhat on a decline.

But Yost believes the Toronto Maple Leafs could be willing to make a move for the veteran blue liner.

"You have to wonder if a team like the Toronto Maple Leafs would take a shot here. We know they have been sniffing around top-four defenders for basically a year..." he writes.

"The Leafs have recognized two key elements: (1) the team is very close to being a Stanley Cup contender; and (2) the team’s fatal flaw is a young and inexperienced blueline that doesn’t have that elite, No.1 defender. But there are so many other reasons for why the Leafs’ interest in Weber could make sense."

Yost explains that the Leafs' upcoming choices on which young players can land a contract extension would be useful in this potential trade. The Leafs, who are looking to bolster their blue line, have over $5 million in cap space today and could take on Weber's deal, if Montreal retains some salary.

Furthermore, Weber and coach Mike Babcock have a great relationship that could benefit the franchise. However, let's keep in mind that this is an "improbable deal, but not an impossible one."

"If the Habs do seriously go through another losing stretch and incur some organizational change, a new regime might be much more inclined to get out of that Weber contract and reset their clock for contention."

What do you think? Would you pull the trigger on this monster trade?
