Rumors of a possible deal between the Bruins and Canucks.

The Boston Bruins seem destined to make the playoffs at their current pace and for that reason general manager Don Sweeney may be looking at ways in which he can help improve his chances of making a deep run.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman believes that while the Bruins are looking to make a trade, he doesn't feel that Don Sweeney will be looking to give up the teams top prospects in order to make a move. Instead he believes that the Bruins GM will look to make a smaller move, but one that could nonetheless help his team in the playoffs.

" I could see them trying that, like a Thomas Vanek or something like that," said Friedman on Monday.

The move would likely only cost the Bruins a late-round draft pick and when you consider that Vanek currently plays for the Canucks, who seem destined to miss the playoffs, the move would make a lot of sense for both sides.

Vanek has a salary cap hit of just $2,000,000 so it wouldn't be too difficult for the Bruins to make him fit, and his contract expires at the end of this season so it wouldn't bog them down moving forward.

As for the Canucks, Vanek will be an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the regular season and trading him would allow them to get some value, even if it's minor in the grand scheme of things, instead of losing him for nothing.

Vanek has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 total points in 42 games with the Canucks this season.
