Rumour: Carey Price targeted in outrageous blockbuster trade?

This would mean a complete rebuild would take place in Montreal! Do you think it will happen?

I don’t know how old you were when one of the biggest trade in Montreal Canadiens history took place, but most fans remember when star goalie Patrick Roy had enough and demanded a trade live during a 11-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings back in December 1995. He was then traded, along with Mike Keane, to the Colorado Avalanche in return for Jocelyn Thibault, Martin Rucinsky and Andrei Kovalenko.

Are we suggesting the same thing could happen with their current star netminder Carey Price: no, we wouldn’t. However, former NHLer and QMJHL general manager Philippe Boucher of the Drummondville Voltigueurs believes a trade between the Habs and the Avalanche makes a lot of sense and Price would be at the very centre of it.

“One day, if they want to get younger in between the pipes in Montreal, there is Philipp Grubauer who could come in return, said the former NHLer on the air of JiC on TVA Sports on Thursday evening. “In Colorado, they selected a young left-handed defenseman named Bowen Byram in the first round of the draft and he would be a great fit in Montreal.
“In my opinion, in Colorado, what’s missing to win the Stanley Cup in the next two or three years is Carey Price.”

Boucher maintains that while his suggestion is only a speculation, his job in the QMJHL is to make trades happen and this one that could make sense for the Canadiens.

The Avalanche would indeed be able to make it happen, seeing that it has $8.35 million under the salary cap and Price takes $10.5 million annually out of the Montreal payroll.  With players involved as part of that potential blockbuster move, it would fit on either payroll.

However, would the Canadiens dare to move Price in order to focus on the future? This sounds like an outrageous trade!
