Rumour: NHL owners demand Gary Bettman get fired
Bettman’s handling of the Kyle Beach’s situation is the last straw…

Gary Bettman is trending and you know it’s never for good reasons. In the wake of Kyle Beach’s interview with TSN last week, the entire hockey world is reeling and trying to come to grips with how this entire awful situation remained buried for more than a decade. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, Beach, a former 11th overall pick of the Blackhawks in 2008, alleges that the team’s former video coach Brad Aldrich sexually assaulted him during the 2010 season. Furthermore Beach contends that he notified then Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman and head coach Joel Quenneville of the alleged abuse and neither took action. Bowman resigned last week and Quenneville, who was with the Florida Panthers organization most recently, was effectively forced to resign as a result of these findings.
The NHL commissioner is not owning up to his responsibilities, blaming everyone else while it is HIS league. And now NHL owners are reportedly fed up with Bettman and hope to see him get fired, leave or just retire. Player agent Allan Walsh, who loves to hate Bettman, is not hiding those reactions from NHL owners.
On top of that, several reporters have reacted to Bettman’s lack of action, with Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star pushing strongly with an article demanding Bettman leaves the NHL.
“Bettman must go. And now is the perfect time. He has done his job, and his legacy is not just the salary cap but this current six-year extension , that runs through 2025-26 season, will ensure the owners make a boatload of money for the foreseeable future beyond the 50-50 split in hockey related revenue.”
McGran doubts the owners really want him out: “he makes them too much money. So it will be up to Bettman to do the right thing himself.”
However, I kinda doubt he’d give up his job - he doesn’t seem like the type of man who owns up to his mistakes…
And so owners, yes, demand he leaves! Let's hope the rumour is true.
