According to a wild rumor from hockey writer Liam Maguire, the Ottawa Senators have been sold by owner Eugene Melnyk to a group that includes Ottawa 67’s and Ottawa RedBlacks owner Jeff Hunt.
There’s currently no way of corroborating or debunking the rumour and the Sens have so far declined to comment on the report. Still… you can’t help but wonder if there’s something to it. What’s the old saying, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire?”
If indeed the Sens have been sold, or are in negotiations to be sold, expect relocation rumours to run wild. It’s not secret that the Sens have struggled financially throughout the years and, despite a run the the Eastern Conference Final last season, their having a difficult time drawing fans this season. With options in Seattle, Houston and Quebec City… could this be the end of the Ottawa Senators?
If so, wave goodbye to The Battle of Ontario…
