Arguably the best free agent still available is none other than 33-year-old veteran forward Thomas Vanek, and now it sounds like he may not be available for long.
Vanek's agent Steve Bartlett was a guest on WGR 550 radio this week when he revealed that interest in two of his clients has been steadily picking up in recent weeks, those two clients being the aforementioned Vanek, and veteran forward Drew Stafford.
Vanek is of particular interest because he has consitently demonstrated an ability to produce points regardless of what team he has been on, a list that now includes the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers.
Just last season Vanek put up 17 goals and 31 assists for a total of 48 points in the regular season, a regular season that was split between the Red Wings and Panthers.
It's frankly surprising that Vanek has remained unsigned this long, despite what many consider to be serious defensive liabilities, and if Bartlett is correct he won't remain unsigned much longer.
