Ryan Fanti scores the first goalie goal in 71 years!
Ryan Fanti goes from ECHL goaltender, to world class boxer, to elite goal scorer in only a matter of only a couple of weeks.
Ryan Fanti of the Fort Wayne Komets has really been making quite a name for himself this month in the hockey world, and that trend continued on Saturday night when the talented goaltender once again made the highlight reel.
Last time Fanti made headlines after he put a hurting on fellow ECHL goaltender Brad Barone, but this time around it was Fanti's scoring touch that would get him all the attention.
With his team up 5-3 over the Rapid City Rush, Fanti was given the opportunity to fire a puck down the ice in an attempt to score a rare goalie goal. Not only did Fanti nail it, he practically put the puck square in the center of the net in the process, leaving little doubt that this one was going to go all the way.
As you might expect, Fanti was absolutely elated after scoring the first goalie goal in the 71 year history of the Fort Wayne Komets franchise. My favorite part of the clip though has to be the moment Fanti skates behind his own net after celebrating, as the adrenaline dump hits him and he slumps over to really let the moment sink in.
As mentioned earlier, Fanti has already made quite the name for himself this month and if you missed his goalie fight with Brad Barone, we've got you covered:
