The Toronto Maple Leafs have hit a home run. The St. Louis Blues have traded captain Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari to the Maple Leafs late on Friday night.

The trade also involves the Minnesota Wild.

This is the breakdown of the transaction:

The Blues will receive forward prospect Mikhail Abramov, AHL forward Adam Gaudete, Toronto's first-round pick in 2023, Ottawa's third-round pick in 2023 and Toronto's second-round pick in 2024. The Blues will absorb 50 per cent of O'Reilly's remaining salary.

The Wild will also be retaining 25 per cent of O'Reilly's total salary as an intermediary in the trade.

In return, the Maple Leafs will send Minnesota their own fourth-round pick in 2025. Right-wing prospect Josh Pillar will also be leaving Minnesota to Toronto to complete the trade. He currently plays for WHL Saskatoon.

CapFriendly.com reports that O’Reilly’s $7.5-million cap hit for the remainder of the season will be divided as follows.

* St. Louis retained 50% ($3.75M)
* Minnesota retained 50% of the $3.75M ($1.875M)
* O’Reilly joins Maple Leafs with a cap hit of $1.875M

O'Reilly will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Acciari is also a rental, heading into free agency in July. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, both forwards are expected to arrive in Toronto for Saturday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Maple Leafs are going all in, hoping to get past the first round of the postseason this time around.
