It seems that things did not end so amicably between the Toronto Maple Leafs and now former Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves.

Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving made the decision to unload Reaves this week when he traded the veteran enforcer to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Henry Thrun, and it now seems like that was likely the best thing for all parties involved on the Leafs end of the equation.

Following the trade, Reaves spoke to reporters and expressed his frustration at what he described as a lack of trust from those above him in the organization.

"I think there was just a lack of trust very early in the season," said a frustrated Reaves.

Reaves, whose play was often the subject of criticism from pundits and fans when he did play, felt that he was walking on eggshells with one mistake potentially costing him several games each time.

"It just kind of looked like I had one bad game and I was out of the lineup for 4,5,6,7,8,9, games."

Even when he did play well for the Maple Leafs last season, the highly respected enforcer felt he didn't receive a fair shake.

"I would come back in, have a good game, but you know taken right back out," said Reaves. "I just could never really gain any momentum with my game, couldn't really gain any traction."

One could argue that Reaves simply did not play well enough to earn a regular spot in the lineup, but Reaves attributed his inconsistent play to the inconsistent ice time he was receiving.

"It's hard to play when you play like that," said Reaves. "It's hard to play when you're only playing every 5-6 games."

Thankfully for Reaves he won't have to worry about that this coming season, at least not from the Maple Leafs, after the team felt they were better suited trading him away to the San Jose Sharks.

"They didn't see a fit for me in the lineup and it is what it is," said Reaves in conclusion.

These complaints appeared to be directed more at the team's staff than any of Reaves' fellow player, but you can hear what Reaves had to say about the end of his time in Toronto, in his own words, in the short clip below:
