A showdown between two powerful NHL heavyweights.
There was plenty of physicality in the opening week of the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season and with every team in the NHL in action on Saturday, Saturday night proved to be no exception.
Fans who stayed up late were treated to a heavyweight showdown during one of the late games contested between the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, with Sharks enforcer Ryan Reaves going toe to toe against Ducks enforcer Ross Johnston.
Both of these men are definitely heavyweight fighters with Reaves coming in at 6'2 and 225 lbs while Johnston is even bigger at 6'5 and 232 lbs. This meant that this was a rare occasion in which Reaves was actually outsized in a fight, something that would come into play in this exchange.
In the early moments of the fight it was Reaves landing the majority of the offense with Reaves arguably getting the best shots of the fight off on Johnston while Johnston simply absorbed them and kept fighting. This one would however turn into more of a battle for position when Johnston began to use his superior size and weight to muscle Reaves up against the glass. Unfortunately Johnston didn't land a great deal of offense as he was doing so, which caused the NHL officials on the ice to step in and put a stop to this one.
