The Anaheim Ducks have traded Ryan Strome to the Calgary Flames, for just a seventh round pick in 2027.
Strome had fallen out of favours in Anaheim and has been looking for more ice time and perhaps a leadership role. He will get that chance in Calgary.
The Flames are taking on his full $5M cap hit and salary this year and next.
The veteran forward has only three goals and six assists in 33 games, but he did miss the first month of the season with an upper-body injury.
Strome is in the fourth year of a five-year contract with a $5 million AAV.
The Ducks, who are in playoff contention for a spot in the Pacific Division, will now have the cap space for pending significant extensions for star players like Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier.
