Ryan Whitney destroys ESPN and exposes its total disrespect for NHL fans

I completely agree with him. Unacceptable! Let's do something!

ESPN got under a lot of fire over the weekend when it chose to present Game 6 of the second round series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers at 10pmET. We get that hockey isn’t as popular in the States as it is in Canada, but that contest was the only one on the schedule and still got no love from ESPN.

Not only were most folks in the East in bed, but the ones that were ready to watch were stunned to see that ESPN preferred to present a baseball game, and tuned into the NHL contest late into the first period. When ESPN finally tuned in, the score was already 2-1 for the Oilers since the first three goals of the game were tallied fairly quickly.

Fans got understandably upset on social media and the situation even prompted Ryan Whitney, a former NHL player and now host of the Spittin Chiclets podcast, to openly call out ESPN, claiming it does not give a damn about hockey.

Even Calgary Flames' Troy Stecher called them out, saying: “ESPN. Missed three goals in the opening three minutes of an elimination NHL playoff game because we had to finish out a 9-1 MLB blowout. #GrowTheGame”

I know, as a Canadian, fans are more passionate or dedicated towards hockey in Canada, but that may be because the broadcasts here are taking the game seriously.

ESPN cannot push aside an important matchup between two top contenders, especially when it means missing out on three important goals at the start of the game.

ESPN, do better.
