We have a trade

On Saturday, the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes announced a relatively minor trade, a 1 for 1 swap of players that sees a defenseman being swapped for a forward.

In an official announcement the Sabres confirmed the acquisition of veteran National Hockey League defenseman Gavin Bayreuther, sending forward Viktor Neuchev back the other way to Carolina.

Neuchev, a Sabres 3rd round draft selection (74th overall) at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft has no NHL experience to speak of but has spent the last 3 seasons at the professional level with the Sabres American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. This season Neuchev has 6 goals and 10 assists for the Americans in 34 AHL games.

Bayreuther is the only man with any NHL experience in this deal, having previously played in 122 NHL games split between the Dallas Stars, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Bayreuther has 5 goals and 23 assists for 28 career points over those 122 games.

This season the veteran NHL defenseman has been with the AHL's Chicago Wolves, recording 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points in 33 games.
