Sabres’ GM confirms part of the Jack Eichel’s latest trade rumours!

There was so much trade chatter surrounding Buffalo Sabres’ captain Jack Eichel on Monday it was deafening. One surfaced stating that Eichel requested a trade from the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers were among the interested teams. Eichel’s agent, Peter Fish, however told McKenzie his client doesn’t want out of Buffalo.

This won’t be enough to stop all the speculations, and maybe that’s why new general manager Kevyn Adams decided to respond to the chatter and give his two cents. While focusing on the fact that he was not trying to move or get rid of Eichel, Adams appeared to confirm that some teams were indeed calling for his services and that the Sabres were listening, though weren’t ready to part with their captain.

“Here’s the thing. People call and make phone calls and ask about players every day. My job is to listen.

We have no intention and we’re not looking to do anything with Jack.”

But what if he gets an offer he simply cannot refuse?! What will he have to say then? You can’t fault general managers from calling to see if Eichel might be available, but what if talks get more serious and he ends up being on the move… Adams will be kicking himself in the head for not shutting up on Tuesday. However, he is new at this job and wants to remain in control over what is being said about his team, who still struggling mightily over the past seasons. The Sabres ended in 13th place of the Eastern Conference but couldn’t qualify for the NHL’s expanded playoff format featuring the top 12 teams in each conference. Their playoff drought is the league’s longest active streak.

For now, though it was not said in Adams’ words when asked about the rumours, the Sabres remain committed to building around their captain. Their recent acquisition of veteran forward Eric Staal as their new second-line center is an obvious example.

Should we have answered for Adams?
