Sabres ready to make another trade

Busy time in Buffalo after last night’s moves.

A lot happened on Thursday night as the Buffalo Sabres got busy moving defenseman Marco Scandella to the Montreal Canadiens and acquiring forward Michael Frolik from the Calgary Flames.

The Sabres, who lost Jeff Skinner to injury earlier this week, have been looking for a way to use their depth on the back end to acquire help up front.

But it seems like the addition of Frolik might not be enough. TSN’s Darren Dreger reports that the Sabres could have more moves coming.

“Sounds like Buffalo is still on the hunt and willing to move other pieces,” he wrote on Twitter.

It is clear that adding Frolik is expected to provide experienced right-wing depth to their forward lines, however, it does not make up for the absence of Skinner.

The Sabres will need to scour the trade market to find a scorer to take some of the offensive burdens off their top line and perhaps offset Skinner’s absence as they chased a playoff spot.

A move could come in the following days seeing that there is no time to waste in the playoff race. They still have depth on the back end to use as a return. Defenseman Zach Bogosian has requested a trade, but there is also forward Evan Rodrigues who wants out of Buffalo.

The Sabres have assets and it looks like they will use them shortly!
