Earlier today ESPN reporter Emily Kaplan reported that the Buffalo Sabres are at the "one yard line" when it comes finally trading disgruntled superstar Jack Eichel. Kaplan reports that the Calgary Flames and Vegas Golden Knights are the two teams trying to pry Eichel out of Buffalo.
More from Kaplan:
Following that report, fellow ESPN reporter Kevin Weekes did some digging and he discovered that the Flames have offered up Matthew Tkachuk, a 1st round pick, a former 1st round pick and two additional prospects in their trade offer for Eichel.
Check it out:
Obviously, we don't know the particulars of this offer or what's on the other end of the deal from the Sabres' perspective but... man oh man that's a whopper of an offer from Flames GM Brad Treliving.
If this is indeed true, I've got to say... that's some big league, swing for the fences type of stuff from Flames GM Brad Treliving.
Adding even more intrigue to today's rumor is the fact that Sabres insider John Vogl reports that Sabres management "are feeling added external pressure (not grievance related) to get a deal done today."
So... the stage is set. The Flames have a killer offer in for Eichel and the Sabres are looking to make a deal today. The ball is firmly in the Sabres' court, all eyes in the hockey world is on this franchise to make a blockbuster deal. So what do they do?
They Tweet out this:
Now... if you're like me and you just happened to see a Tweet from the Buffalo Sabres come up on my phone that says "IT'S HAPPENING!" chances are your heart nearly beat out of your chest.
OMG OMG OMG.... EICHEL! TO CALGARY!?!?!?! OMG OMG OMG
I then open up the Tweet to see that it's about a dog...
From there I scroll through the literally hundreds of comments from people who had the same reaction I had.
I mean... just look at some of these replies:
I mean... COME ON, Sabres!
New Rule: You're not allowed to Tweet 'IT'S HAPPENING' until Eichel is on the move.
