According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Buffalo Sabres have traded their captain and veteran forward Kyle Okposo to the Floral Panthers.

Darren Dreger reports that the Sabres are getting a conditional draft pick in the deal : a seventh round pick that turns into a fifth if Florida wins the cup. They also receive prospect defenseman Calle Sjalin.

The trade has been confirmed by the Sabres:

It had been reported that Okposo was interested in joining the Panthers for a shot at the championship. With this transaction, the Sabres are doing well by their captain. Okposo has not taken part in the postseason for the past eight years.

Okposo is a class leader who will bring great character to the Panthers. The 35-year-old forward was one of Buffalo’s six pending unrestricted free agents that was likely to be moved by today’s deadline. He signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Sabres in July of 2016 and the team named him captain prior to the 2022-23 season.

In 61 games this season, Okposo has 12 goals and 22 points.
