The Blackhawks are expected to make a goalie trade due to the salary cap.
The Chicago Blackhawks will be making a trade in the near future.
On Saturday night, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that we are very likely to see a goalie moved in the near future with the return of National Hockey League goaltender Laurent Brossoit set to make his return after an extended layoff due to injury.
Brossoit has been out of action for a very long time but was playing extremely well prior to his injury, with two back to back excellent seasons on his resume. Brossoit most recently played as a member of the Winnipeg Jets during the 2023-24 season where he has a 2.00 goals against average and a .927 save percentage over 23 games. The season prior he had similar numbers with a 2.17 goals against average and a .927 save percentage over 11 games with the Vegas Golden Knights.
With so many teams in need of goaltending help that could make Brossoit a highly coveted target with many teams around the NHL in need of goaltending help.
"The Blackhawks have given teams permission to talk to him," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.
According to the insider the move has been made due to the fact that the Blackhawks simply can't fit Brossoit under their cap.
"The Blackhawks don't really have room for him," confirmed Friedman. "He's carrying a $3.3 million cap hit so not everybody can fit that."
Of course the first team that comes to mind is the Edmonton Oilers who have had a very public struggle when it comes to their goaltending, although there are no doubt going to be plenty of other teams around the NHL calling about Brossoit.
