Sam Gagner retires and is immediately hired by NHL team
Best of luck in your new career, Sam!
Long-time NHL forward Sam Gagner has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
In a corresponding move, the Ottawa Senators have announced that they've hired Gagner as their Director of Player Development.
“Sam had an incredible career as a player and we look forward to launching his next chapter,” said Senators GM Steve Staios in a prepared statement. “A true character individual, Sam has contributed to the success of his organizations, both on and off the ice.”
The 35 year old Gagner finishes his NHL career with 529 points in 1,043 career games split between the Edmonton Oilers, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets.
He'll probably be remembered most for his incredible, record tying 8 point night with the Oilers back in 2012:
