Sam Montembeault has been demoted to the AHL

This just in, the Montreal Canadiens have assigned goaltender Sam Montembeault to the AHL's Laval on a conditioning stint.

It's important to note that because this is a conditioning stint, that Montembeault is not subject to waivers in order to be assigned to the AHL.

The 29-year-old netminder has not played since December 9, when he entered in relief for Jakub Dobes against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and has not started for Montreal since December 2 against the Ottawa Senators. He carries five wins over 15 games, a .857 save percentage and a 3.65 goals-against average in 2025-26.
