The San Jose Sharks came up dead last in a Hockey Writers report listing the NHL's best farm systems in 2017.

Why is the Sharks' farming system really that bad though? Let's take a look:

Over the past five years, only two players drafted by San Jose outside of the first round have played with the team.

"The main problem for the Sharks has been their inability to draft, develop and implement talent outside of the first round," explains Brett Slawson, who wrote the report.

He added that only one player is listed as a decent prospect that could help the Sharks next season. His name? Timo Meier.

The Switzerland native had 40 points in 33 games with the San Jose Barracuda and added 10 points in his first 34 NHL games.
