Scary health issue for Jets’ Gabe Vilardi revealed!
Expect him to be out for a long time…

The Winnipeg Jets have been without star forward Gabriel Vilardi for several games now, and on Friday, head coach Rick Bowness warned fans and pundits they will have to be even more patient.
Bowness told reporters on Friday that Vilardi suffers from an enlarged spleen and will need to be treated before he can return to the Jets’ lineup. He is therefore likely to miss the entire upcoming five-game road trip through the Eastern Conference, as there is no official time table for his return.
This is a condition that recently was discovered during his time away from the ice during his recovery process, in ongoing diagnosis with his current upper-body injury.
Vilardi had been out of action with an upper-body injury he sustained on Feb. 29 against the Dallas Stars. However, team insider John Lu for TSN reports that the condition is separate from the undisclosed upper body injury that’s sidelined him since the beginning of March. At first, Vilardi was considered day to day, then shifted to week-to-week, and is now expected to be out indefinitely.
The team and medical staff is focused on treating the condition affecting his spleen at this time.
Vilardi has put up 16 goals and 30 points in 38 games this season. He has been out of the lineup 27 times.
This is a significant blow to Winnipeg, who currently sits third in the Central Division with 87 points ahead to tonight’s action. The Jets are hosting the Anaheim Ducks and hoping to get the two points in a tight race for the postseason in the Western conference.
