This just in, the New Jersey Devils have announced that goaltender Corey Schneider has been placed on waivers for the purposes of a contract buyout. Ditto for Columbus Blue Jackets forward Alex Wennberg.

Check it out:

In Schneider's case, you just can't help but feel sorry for the guy. Once a premier goaltender in the NHL, the 34 year old has had his career absolutely decimated by hip injuries. As a result, he's played just 39 NHL games over the past two seasons. Still, he plans on continuing his career and hopes to sign a new contract as an unrestricted free agent.

As for Wennberg... well let's just say that this kid never lived up to the hype. He's still just 26 years old but with just five goals and 22 points for the Blue Jackets this past season there's no way he was worth the $4.9 million the team paid him. Worse yet though, he was signed at that rate for three more seasons. His buyout will cost the Blue Jackets just a shade under $900,000 each year for the next six seasons.
