Monday morning has been a rough one for the Winnipeg Jets.

Jets head coach Scott Arniel has just provided two concerning updates regarding two of his regular National Hockey League level players, with both star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and defenseman Dylan Samberg forced to the sidelines today.

I'll start with the worst news that Arniel had to share on Monday and that was in regards to the health of Samberg. According to Arniel, Samberg will be out for the next six to eight weeks as a result of a broken wrist, guaranteeing that he will miss significant time at the start of the regular season.

Although he was limited to just 60 games during the 2024-25 regular season, Samberg played an important role for the Jets averaging well over 20 minutes of ice time a night. He will not be an easy player to replace, especially not this close to the start of the season, and it remains to be seen if the Jets will make a corresponding move in response to what is a significant piece of bad news.

There were also concerns around star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on Monday morning after he made a very early exit. Scott Arniel informed reporters that Hellebuyck wasn't feeling right, with the veteran netminder squaring up to a shot before practice and immediately leaving the ice after the fact.

Hellebuyck was scheduled to play in tomorrow's preseason game against the Minnesota Wild, but Arniel declined to confirm whether or not Hellebuyck will play in that game after leaving early today.

Hellebuyck is obviously the Jets most important and valuable player, especially during the regular season, and there will be significant concerns around his status until the team provides an official update.
