Bowman spills the beans.

The Chicago Blackhawks left many members of their fanbase stunned this offseason when they made a series of moves that clearly signaled the team was moving towards a full rebuild. While star players like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, both of whom have full no-movement clauses, remain on the roster, players like Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach were unceremoniously shipped out of town as the Blackhawks moved in a new direction.

Fans looking for a little more clarity on why the Blackhawks made the decisions that they have thus far in the offseason got some answers over the weekend when Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now had the chance to speak with a true legend of the sport in former National Hockey League head coach Scotty Bowman. D'Amico revealed that during his conversation with Bowman earlier this year, the former Blackhawks head coach revealed that Dach wasn't really fitting in as far as the Blackhawks were concerned.

"We spoke to Scotty Bowman earlier this year and he told us the biggest problem with Dach is faceoffs and wasn't fitting with what they wanted to do (Identity wise)..." said D'Amico on TSN's 690 radio.

That doesn't sound particularly promising for the Canadiens who appear to have brought Dach in with the intention of deploying him as a center, although as we've seen in the past Dach can also be used on the wing. Like in many cases however it wasn't simply one factor that led to Dach being shipped out of Chicago, D'Amico also indicated that a big motivator behind the decision to trade Dach to Montreal was also simply the fact that the Blackhawks truly have a desire to start over from scratch.

"But, I don't think people understand the degree at which Chicago wants to burn it to the ground," added D'Amico on Sunday.

It sounds like Dach may remain a member of the Canadiens for the foreseeable future, D'Amico also revealed that he believes Dach will sign a bridge deal with the Canadiens in short order.

"I think what we've been hearing a lot about has been a bridge deal," said D'Amico. "I think he'll be around the $2 million mark for 1 or 2 years and I think that's a good bet to take."
