The National Hockey League hasn't seen former NHL forward Sean Avery hit the ice in a very long time, but that hasn't stopped the often controversial figure from speaking his mind about the game of hockey and the league itself.

Avery was recently a guest on the Spittin Chiclets podcast and it was during his appearance on the show that he decided he would take some entirely unprompted shots in the direction of Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams. Avery was being asked about the level of competition, and perhaps more importantly the level of compete, that you see in NHL training camps in the modern day and unfortunately for Adams he was used as an example of why things have trended in the wrong direction.

"The days of getting on the bus and having Glen Sather side eye you because he's just disgusted with how you played," began Avery. "He doesn't say anything, just disgusted and you know if this guy wakes up in the middle of the night tonight and he had a bad dream I could be gone."

Avery's comments on Adams began with him forgetting the general manager's name.

"I don't know Kevin Allen is that the GM of Buffalo?" asked Avery. "I played a lot against him he's so unmemorable that I don't even remember his last name."

Avery then pointed to a lack of accountability from people like Kevyn Adams.

"If I'm Mr. Pegula I am not giving the keys to the castle to that guy, I need more accountability," said Avery. "And I need it from top to bottom in the organization."

The comments from Avery would have come off as harsh in any context, but when you consider the fact that he wasn't even asked about Kevyn Adams before burying the Sabres GM makes it seem all that much more harsh.

Do you agree with Avery's assessment or is the controversial former NHL player out to lunch? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
