John Tavares had to know it would be bad, but we are pretty sure he didn't expect plastic snakes to be thrown at him.
Fans in Long Island did everything they could before and during the Maple Leafs game against the New York Islanders on Thursday to remind "traitor" Tavares that they weren't happy that he chose to sign with Toronto as he became a free agent last summer. The fans heckled him, booed and threw plastic snakes and even a jersey at him as he left warmups.
The Islanders had put together a Tavares tribute video during the first period, but it was largely drowned out by boos and the heckling crowd.
Former NHLer Sean Avery has one message for you, Islanders fans, and it isn't a pretty one... Avery posted a video to his Instagram story this morning ripping Islanders fans after their team beat the Leafs 6-1 last night in the return of Tavares.
He has no mercy and surely knows how to tell Isles fans off! And he swears a lot...
Isles fans: focus on the positive. For the first time since 2016, when the Islanders lost in the second round, New York will be in the postseason. That’s something to cheer! Focus on that Isles fans and let’s all move on.
Or take your anger out on Avery - he is used to it!
