The Boston Bruins’ Captain Zdeno Chara is considered one of the best defensemen in the NHL. Chara can easily also be considered the B’s most valuable player, outside of Goalie Tuukka rask. Despite being 37yrs old, his impact on all three facets of the game and his ability to play at a high level against other team’s top players in invaluable. Here are the projections for Captain Chara’s 2014-15 season: 2013-14 Stats: 17 goals, 23 assists, 40 points in 77 games Contract: Expires after 2017-18 season, with a $6,916,667 million salary-cap hit ($4M cap hit in final season of deal only). What he brings to the team: don’t listen to talk radio hosts. Chara had his best season in 2013-14, tying his career-high in goals at 17, which included 10 power-play goals (tied for 1st in the team). What he needs to work on: Chara will never be fast. This is why it is up to the coaching staff to manage his minutes and make sure he always has a full tank when on the ice. Expected role for 2015: His role will not change for the B’s who rely on him to do a little bit of everything, and that’s just fine with Big Z. Projected 2014-15 Stats: 16 goals, 26 assists in 78 games Full Projection including charts, etc: HERE
