Fans in Seattle are getting excited about everything coming into place for the new NHL expansion team and while we have gotten a glimpse of the potential colours of the club in the recent weeks, it seems now that a major step is being taken in the process.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Seattle’s NHL expansion team is closing in on naming Ron Francis as its first GM. While the team has refused to comment, it sure feels like an official announcement could be made shortly.

Multiple sources had recently stated that former general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes was a strong candidate to be the expansion team’s first general manager. There was also chatter about former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall being a possible choice for the positon.

Francis was a key part in building the roster of the Hurricanes, that ended competing for a spot in the Stanley Cup final, losing to the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference finals.

We are sure he would love to build a winner in the Pacific Northwest!
