Vincent Iorio, the 23-year-old defenseman, has found himself on waivers for the second time this season. On Friday, the San Jose Sharks placed Iorio on the wire, opening the door for a potential return to his original team.

Iorio was claimed by the Sharks back in October after being placed on waivers by the Washington Capitals. Now, with injuries hitting Washington’s farm club in Hershey, the Capitals could be tempted to reclaim the young blue liner to provide some much-needed depth.

Drafted 55th overall by Washington in 2021, Iorio spent the 2024–25 season with the Hershey Bears of the AHL, recording 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 67 games. At the NHL level, he’s appeared in a total of 30 games, 21 this season with San Jose, compiling four assists and 12 penalty minutes in his career.

While Iorio has yet to fully establish himself in the NHL, his waiver placement could represent a low-risk opportunity for the Capitals to bolster their defensive depth and support their prospect pipeline. Fans will be watching closely to see if Washington makes a move to reclaim one of their own before tomorrow’s deadline.
