Senators finally get good news, set to end quarantine.
8 Senators rejoin the roster.
The Ottawa Senators have faced a number of strong opponents in the National Hockey League this season, but there's no question that their toughest challenge thus far has been their ongoing battle with Covid. The Senators, over the course of the last few weeks, have seen their roster decimated as a result of the virus, with a whopping 10 players currently on the NHL's covid protocol list coming into this weekend.
It has been a monumental challenge for the Senators, so much so that earlier this week the league decided to step in. Over the course of the week we saw a number of games involving the Senators postponed, including a matchup on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils, a matchup on Thursday against the Nashville Predators, and even including a game today against the New York Rangers.
In spite of the fact that those games will have to be replayed at a later point in the season, the Senators finally received some good news on the Covid front on Saturday. The biggest news of the day came when it was revealed that the Senators would emerge from quarantine and would resume the regular season starting this coming Monday. Obviously the Senators want to be on the ice playing hockey, especially with so many young players developing on their roster, and it would now appear they will get to do just that.
Perhaps the biggest news of the day however came when it was revealed that the vast majority of the Senators' players currently in on the Covid protocol list had been cleared to return to play. As I stated before a whopping 10 Senators were on the list coming into the weekend, but now 8 of those 10 players have been given the green light to return.
The players cleared are the following:
RW Connor Brown
D Josh Brown
LW Alex Formenton
C Dylan Gambrell
D Nick Holden
D Victor Mete
G Matt Murray
RW Austin Watson
The Senators have also announced that associate coach Jack Capuano has been cleared to return behind the bench, also exiting the league's covid protocols on Saturday. Nikita Zaitsev and Drake Batherson are the two players who remain on the list, although the hope is that they will soon come off like their fellow Senators have today.
