Oh... my... God! This is crazy!

According to a report from sport-business publisher Sportico, the Ottawa Senators have as many as nine interested buyers and are set to be sold for the highest price ever paid for an NHL team (excluding expansion).
Amongst the bidders are a consortium that includes Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and Michael Andlauder a part-owner of the Montreal Canadiens. Sportico reports that the asking price for the team is nearly $1 billon, which would make them the most valuable franchise sale in the history of the NHL. The Pittsburgh Penguins were purchased by the Boston based Fenway Sports Group in 2021 for $900 million. The Sens are currently valued at just $655 million.
The thing is... there's a huge opportunity with the Senators and it extends well beyond the team's play on the ice. There's an enormous opportunity for the team's new ownership group to take create a new arena and entertainment complex in the downtown area on the LeBreton Flats site There are, of course, many hurdles to jump through before the Sens are playing in downtown Ottawa instead of suburban Kanata, but the path is there for an ownership group looking to take this team to the next level.
