Senators hire Travis Green as new head coach

“There’s a sense that Ottawa went a little cheap with Travis Green” - Nick Kypreos

According to multiple inside reports, the Ottawa Senators are hiring Travis Green as their next head coach.

TSN insider Darren Dreger with the latest:

Earlier today Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman also reported that the Senators will be adding Green as their head coach. In particular he said, "All eyes on Travis Green and we'll see what the next few days brings."

Meanwhile Sens insider Bruce Garrioch reports that Green is likely to introduced as the team's new head coach during a press conference scheduled for tomorrow.

Green, of course, was interim head coach of the New Jersey Devils following their firing of Lindy Ruff and was in the running for the Devils' full-time head coaching position. The Devils, however, have been interviewing several candidates for their vacant coaching job and allowed Green to interview elsewhere, including Ottawa.

The 53 year old Green was previously head coach of the Vancouver Canucks from 2017 until 2022 when he was replaced by Bruce Boudreau. Prior to coaching he had a lengthy NHL career playing 970 games for the New York Islanders, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins.

Standby for official confirmation from the Senators organization.
