Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom took a skate to the face in Wednesday’s 5-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The young blue liner got tangled up with Auston Matthews near the end of Wedesday’s gameand appeared to catch Matthews’ skate blade up high as the Leafs star player fell frontwards to the ice.

Right after taking the skate in his face, Brannstrom covered his eyes and fell to the ice. He was later seen being taken care of by a therapist and head coach D.J. Smith told reporters after the matchup that Brannstrom had stitches but is expected to be fine.

Still, it might have been a little too close for comfort!

He is not expected to miss any game time because of the injury and should be in the lineup when Ottawa is back in action on Saturday night at home against the New York Rangers.

That scar will be a nice souvenir of his first game of the 2019-20 season!
