Time for a rebuild?

The Ottawa Senators have lost 16 of their last 19 games and have made it quite clear that this current season is a bust. However, general manager Pierre Dorion can still manage to focus on the future and plan ahead prior to the Feb. 26 trade deadline.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports that the recent trade chatter coming out of Ottawa is that Dorion isn’t ready to sell off assets yet, but he’s willing to discuss every player except captain Erik Karlsson and winger Mark Stone.

"League sources indicated Wednesday the most popular Senators players if Dorion wanted to trade remained the likes of winger Mike Hoffman, centres Derick Brassard and Jean-Gabriel Pageau and defenceman Cody Ceci," writes Garrioch.

Hoffman remains the most in-demand player as many teams have shown interest in acquiring the winger. The St. Louis Blues considered the frontrunner, and it is believed the Dorion is looking to seek young players in return of any move he is about to make.

The GM doesn’t want a total rebuild but prospects could have a great impact in the following seasons and ensure that the Sens can once again become a true Cup contender, like they were last spring.
