The Winnipeg Jets placed goalie Ondrej Pavelec on the injured reserve list with what head coach Paul Maurice is calling a "significant knee sprain," the team announced Monday.
The Czech netminder was injured in a collision with Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan on Saturday. Maurice said they hope the 28-year-old will return by January or February. The means Pavelec would miss at least 16 games.
The Jets recalled one of the best young goalie prospects in hockey, Connor Hellebuyck from the AHL's Manitoba Moose on Sunday, as well as forward Joel Armia, a 2011 first-round pick, on Monday. Armia has six points in 14 AHL games this season.
