Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon met with reporters on Tuesday evening to talk about the significant changes made by the franchise on Free Ageny Day and especially the sign and trade for Mitch Marner. The Toronto Maple Leafs moved Marner to Vegas in exchange for forward Nicolas Roy. As part of the deal, Marner then signed an eight-year, $96 million contract that will keep him in Vegas through the 2032-33 season. They welcomed him and his family to Sin City.

Both Marner and McCrimmon answered questions and when the general manager had the chance, he shamed pundits and insiders for recent rumours that surfaced on the trade market. He did not hesistate to call them “shameful,” including any reports that they were shopping William Karlsson or Tomas Hertl, per Chris Johnston.

Last month, rumours linked Hertl to the Carolina Hurricanes in order to make room for Marner, while Karlsson’s name was also mentioned in trade circle in order for Vegas to clear up some salary cap flexibility heading into free agency.

Some fans may joke that other things are shameful in Vegas with a buzz going around the Golden Knights about how they managed to land Marner.

While no accusations have been filed by the NHL, whispers have been going around that the Golden Knights could be dealing with tampering accusations for how they get ended up with a sign and trade for the former Maple Leafs’ star forward.

There has been a lot going on in Vegas in recent days, with the team also expected to place veteran defensemen Alex Pietrangelo on long-term injured reserve, meaning they’ll be able to exceed the salary cap by his $8.8-million cap hit while he’s on LTIR.

However if you ask McCrimmon, the only thing shameful about what’s going are the silly trade rumours surrounding two of his top players.

Let see what he makes of other rumours that are bound to surface especially with recent chatter linking the Golden Knights to defensemen Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flames and Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres.
