No words to describe what happened in San Jose. Huge mistakes, overtime and ridiculous ending. Wow.
You will have to watch this over and over again. On Thursday night, the San Jose Sharks were about to stun everyone and pull off a regulation win over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights. It looked almost certain, especially with less than two minutes to go when William Eklund rushed to the empty net for the insurance goal.
But not so fast. Eklund pretty much had a Patrik Stefan moment when he first missed the net, attempted to skate around it and tried again, only to miss it again.
In the crazy sequence, the puck ended up in possession of the Golden Knights and new contract boy Jack Eichel dumped it to score the equalizer.
The sequence, which took place just minutes before 1amET started trending right away on social media, with everyone wondering how it was even possible!
I bet Stefan is laughing somewhere as this is viral.
To make things worse for Eklund and the Sharks, the Knights completely ruined their home opener, winning the contest 4-3 in overtime on a goal from Reilly Smith thanks to another blunder from the Sharks. Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, who had a tough night at work, seemed to forget this was do or die overtime, got out of his crease and left the net wide open for Smith to score the game winner. Unlike Eklund, he did not miss the empty net.
The beautiful game right?
