The veteran defenseman's 19 year career with the Sharks comes to an end.
This just in, the San Jose Sharks are buying out the contract of veteran defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic.
Assuming Vlasic clears waivers tomorrow, he'll become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his 19 year NHL career, a career that he has played entirely with the Sharks.
At 38 years old, ffter nearly two decades and with over $91 million in career earnings, I can't really see Vlasic continuing his career. I suspect that this is the end of the road for the Montreal native.
As for the team, they save about $2.5 million in salary cap allocation next season with this buyout. Instead of paying Vlasic $7 million for this upcoming season, they'll pay him just $4.6 million and then $1.1 million in 2026-27.
